Composition Outputs in English III Class of Mrs. Christine Luz Z. Boniao

Hi, this is my official blog for all my writing outputs in English III with Mrs. Boniao. It was a great opportunity to share with you my skills in writing and my thoughts in my writing. I hope you like it.

Reflective Essay

I am so much grateful to Mrs. Christine Luz Boniao that she asked us to make a blog for our project in fourth grading. Because, I learned what blog is and I know how to use it.  At the first place, I wonder what is a blog. I thought it was just like facebook or twitter. But when Mrs. Boniao introduced what blog is, I was so impressed what a blog can do. From that, I realized a blog is so amazing. By the use of the internet, I can share my ideas, my emotions, my insights and my writing outputs to the world. It can be my hobby and my training for the improvement of my writing skills and also my communication skills.
In making this blog, I met so many obstacles. I thought it was so easy, but when you started to design or to post your blog, it finds me difficult. I spent a week to do this, because it made me crazy sometimes. But I do not complain that Mrs. Boniao gave this as a project. Because it made my computer skills improved and also my writing skills. I become more careful in my grammar and I can construct different kinds of sentences.
The purpose of this blog is not for the grade or passing English III. But the main purpose is that, to be able to share my writing outputs and to improve my writing skills. A million thanks for the opportunity to have this blog. I will not abandon it even if I finished third year, because it will become a part of my hobby in the next few weeks.

Our Values Today

Values is defined as the moral principles and beliefs or accepted standards of a person or social group. Values is said to be the standards of good and evil, which govern an individual’s behavior and choices. The values of each individual may derive from society, government, religion, and family. Looking back in the past, our values today are tremendously different from yesterday. The values in the past have been degraded as we accept the modern trend of the society. So the question is, how can we bring those values back in our society today?
In the modern era, everything changes even the moral values of each individual changes. It is moved to low moral standards, which is meant not good to have with. Computers, cellphones, televisions, internet and other media are contributing factors in changing our kind of values. There are lots of people nowadays who don’t show respect to their parents and their elders. There are those who are insensitive to others. These are the examples of the influences of the media. Some people thought that what’s on the T.V. is correct. Values is a pattern of thought and behavior based on high moral standards. It encompasses chastity and moral purity. In the past generations, it was a race to see couples who lived together without the benefit of a legal matrimonial ceremony. In recent years, couples that set up household without marriage are nearly plentiful as traditional married couples. But not only that, this new trend is more accepted by other individuals in our society. In earlier society, the laws and morals are simply come from the Roman System of Laws which was largely based on the Ten Commandments. As society moved into the modern era, that earlier system of laws has become more and more eroded. Great values of the past have been change by today’s modern times. Like being conservative to being speculative or revealing the some parts of the body in public, being honest to dishonest, and being polite to being rude. I hope that those values will be back again amidst the modern type of society we have today.
I truly believe that bringing the values in the past begins individually in our hearts and in our home. It is the accumulation of thousands of small decisions and actions we make. Now is the time to prepare. We must engage in strict training be exercising more self-discipline. As what an author writes in his novel, “You be the one to make and stand for the right, even you stand alone. Have the moral courage to be a light for others to follow.” Now is the time for each of us to arise and unfurl the banner to the world calling for the return of the values from the past.

My Teacher, My Hero

“A teacher affects eternity; he/she can never tell where his/her influence stops” -Henry Adams

Every student’s future is heavily influenced by his/her teacher. A teacher shapes the lives of the future leaders of our nation thus every teacher is a molder to every student to become the future leader who will lead our country’s progress. But is it the only role of every teacher?
Every teacher is a hero; they are the best good examples in our school. Acting as our second parents, our teachers teach us values and practical lessons we need in order to achieve our aspirations in life. By reaching out and touching our lives, then our teachers help shape our future.
Teachers belong to the league of heroes. They may not have super powers but their patience, understanding, and love for his/her students are his/her best weapons. Their names may not be found in the history books, to remark their works and hardships, but ourselves are the symbols of their contributions on how they greatly influenced our lives.
Most students think that teachers are strict and terrorizing. But I am sure that this impression will change if they would meet my favorite teacher, Mrs. Melma Lendio.
Mrs. Lendio is an excellent teacher. She explains lessons thoroughly and helps us better understand the topics which we find difficult to learn. She is like our second mother. Her motherly advice is priceless and she always reminds us how to manage our time properly. She would always emphasize that cramming is a bad habit. From this, it changes my attitude because usually I always think that there will be another time for working my projects. Now, I know the importance of time management and that is the result of the influence of Mrs. Lendio.
I know being a teacher is not an easy job. It goes beyond the school hours. It goes beyond mere checking of attendance or delivering of the subject topics. Every day, a teacher has to cater to each and every student’s learning needs, manage the class, and attend to his/her administrative duties among others. On top of these, a teacher also has his/her own family that needs to be taken care of. Teachers sacrifice a lot to provide students quality education.
I am very grateful for our teachers for their patience and dedication. I know that being a teacher is the noblest profession in the world. I salute every teacher that gives their time teaching the minds of every student. They are indeed the noble heroes.

If I Could

At the modern times, everything goes worst. Most of the things today have changed such as the values of our forefathers, which turned to disrespect, dishonesty and immorality. Then, society became crazy. Every mankind now, sets money as their first priority and they don’t even care about the people who have nothing to eat. Also, in our country, there are no good things that happened. Only corruption, crimes, and murder are seen on the television. Also, much evil doings have taken place to our world. There are wars and terrorism that ruined our place. So, after I think of these things, I guess, we need to change. Because in myself I define change as a task that we need to do when you are dissatisfied of what is happening. It is destiny-filtered, heart grown, and faith built. For this present time, I guess nobody is satisfied of what is happening now. Thus, if I could have the opportunity to change everything, it would be a change for the better and it would start with me.
I’m not a perfect person, but I want to be a good example to others. But first, I need to change my attitude, my characteristics and my point of view in life. I cannot determine myself whether I’m a good person or not, because there are times that I want to be bad at all. So, at this year, 2011, I have made a decision to start the change in myself. If ever I could, will be an instrument for change. So, I really want to have a new life again. I want to be an example to the other people.
Then, if I could change myself, I could also have the chance to change my society. Today, society doesn’t value teamwork, honesty, and even humanity. So, it’s time to stop acting like you don’t care. We have the power to change it. Maybe we could start by being united, “One heart, One mind”. Then, we should also start sharing our blessings to others. All I want is a peaceful and harmonious society.
After I could make a change to my society, I would also choose to change our nation. First of all, I not satisfied with our nation. But it is not because we are poor, we are dirty, nor we have a low educational system. But it is because of other people who act like somebody else, like our leaders, who only think o themselves. They abused the trust of the people and the only work for their ambitions. So, if I could make a change in our nation, it would be a strong and united nation. There would be no poor among us. Everybody possesses a good trait from their forefathers. All I want to happen to our nation is that, there should be equal rights among the citizens in our nation.
Lastly, if I could make a change in our nation, the last thing I want to change is our world. I would start it with peace. I want every country to be united. There would be no wars and no terrorism. Every place would be filled with love and also every mankind would have a freedom and justice on everything they do. Every face would be filled with smile and no poor country that will exists
So, if I could make all the change, every person would start to love their society, nation, and world. If I could also change myself, I will be the best person you would ever know. But anyway, all we need right now is to make a decision to change. Change for the better and not for the worst. We cannot go back where we’ve started, but we can start a new beginning by making a decision to change.

I Realize.. (Thank You, Ma'am)

This is my deconstruction of Thank You Ma'am by Langston Hughes. Before reading it, please read first the story.
Here's the link:  Thank You Ma'am by Langston Hughes

Sometimes it takes a moment to realize what we’ve done. Just like in making decisions in life, first we think that our first choice is our best choice. Then we just don’t think on the second choice. Let us distinguish first what is right from what is wrong. ‘Cause regrets are always in the end. In myself, I have done a terrible mess in my life. I just think about the worldly care. I don’t mind if my doings are right or wrong, I just make decisions even I don’t know what will happen next. Then all my thoughts in life rise when I’ve read the story Thank You Ma’am.
For me, the story ‘Thank You Ma’am is a rare story because of the kindness and generosity that Mrs. Jones showed to Roger. I really enjoy reading the story maybe because of its inspirational theme; trustworthy and kindness. Mrs. Jones showed a good example for the boy. She teaches the boy by relating in her past she said “...I were young once and I wanted things I could not get... You thought I was going to say, ‘but I didn’t snatch people’s pocketbooks.’ Well I wasn’t going to say that.” From that Mrs. Jones inspires the boy not to steal again.
The kindness, forgiveness, and the trust of Mrs. Jones showed to Roger are the things that
surprise me as I read the story. If we will relate this to a real situation, it’s a hard thing to do especially to a person who tries to cheat or steal from us. But it’s not a hard thing to do with Mrs. Jones. In the story she showed her kindness to Roger by not reporting him to a police station instead she bring him to her house and treats him as her child. Even though that boy tried to steal her pocketbook still, she  cared enough for him to give him supper and the money he wanted for his shoes. She trusted Roger, that’s why she even gives him a chance of escape. Then she tries to teach him between right and wrong. She believe that Roger still have a future to be nurtured with.
If this thing happens to my life, I would probably ask myself if I could forgive or show kindness to someone who has done foolishness in me. But not as our Savior has done unto us, He suffered, He bled and He died and that’s because of his unconditional love unto us. Then from that He could forgive us no matter what we’ve done wrong, that’s why we call it as ‘Miracle of Forgiveness’. That’s because of his heavenly care for us.
After I’ve read the story Thank You Ma’am I realize the true meaning of this quote, “Never look
down on anybody unless you're helping him up”. It tells me that never immediately judge anyone, by
their appearance and the things that they do. Not as all know, there might be a deep reason behind why they do that thing. Just like the story, Mrs. Jones did not immediately call the police when Roger tries to steal her pocketbook. Because she knew that, Roger has a problem in life that’s why he tries to steal the pocketbook. Mrs. Jones showed the forgiveness of a kind hearted mother. She brought Roger to her house and treats him as her own child.
The story leaves a great moral impact to me. It inspires me to serve and show kindness to
everyone even though they have done bad things in life. The story also teaches not immediately judge people around you. The story was great and it motivates me to work hard so that I could buy things that I want. Also, the story tells the parents to develop trust in their child as they discipline them.

What Christmas Means To Me

Christmas is the glorious season of the year. It is because hearts are softened. Voices are raised in worship. Kindness and mercy are reentrant as elements in our lives. There is an accelerated reaching out to those in distress. There is an aura of peace that comes into our homes. There is a measure of love that is not felt to the same instant at any other time of the year. Christmas season is a kind of celebration that you will never forget in the Philippines.
At this year, as early as September, Christmas carols are heard. Christmas lights are seen glittering in the house. Christmas symbols are seen from every house that symbolizes peace and unity. At the early month of December, the malls are crowded and the traffic is worst than before. Then, at this time, Christmas songs are often played and heard wherever you go. On the other hand, workers are very busy trying to finish their job and to be able to go home and to have a time to celebrate family reunion.
Christmas is truly the best time of the year. But have we ever realized the true meaning of Christmas? Probably we are just concern about the presents we are about to receive.
Christmas lights are seen from every houses.
Each Christmas season is a season of showing our love to someone whom we loved. It is the time of showing our charitable acts to those in need. Giving presents is one of the acts we can show our love to others. It doesn’t matter if the presents we gave is expensive or not, as long as it comes from out heart. Serving others is also the best gift we can give to others. By serving them, we can let them feel that they are important to us. Just like our savior, Jesus Christ. He bled and died for us. The same as we show our brotherly love to our peers.  So, we should make a little sacrifice in this Christmas to show that we loved them so much. Even if it is just a simple act of kindness, still it can greatly make one heart feel that he/she is not alone in this Christmas.
Christmas is also the season of thanksgiving to our Lord, Jesus Christ. We should give thanks to Him for the things He mercifully done for us. It is the time to raise our voices in worship.
Christmas is also the best time of forgiving and being forgiven. We should remember that the real essence of Christmas is about how you put smile in everyone’s face. It is also a season of family reunion. For me, the very top of my wish list is that our family will be gathered together this Christmas.
I remember that we usually gather and celebrate at our mother’s house. My two sisters, their husband, and their children come with us to celebrate Christmas. We spend the day baking cookies, making fudge brownies and preparing a big Christmas dinner. The children play together and they share their new toys that “Santa Claus” had brought to them.
My family during the Christmas Season in 2010
Decorating for Christmas is also fun. My eldest brother draws a back drop of the Nativity scene, which he displays every year. Together with my brothers and brothers-in-law, we put decorations outside our house and also in the front yard. My mother and my sisters lead the indoor decorations. The last thing we put is our big Christmas tree. Each of us has a favorite trimming that we put on the tree. Most of the tree’s ornaments are made by each of us.
I feel so fortunate that I see my family every day, especially during Christmas season. For me, Christmas is all about being with my family and showing how much they mean to me.
This Christmas season is wonderful in many ways. It is a season of charitable acts of kindness and brotherly love. It is a season of being more reflective about our own lives and about the many blessings that the Lord has showered upon us. It is a season of forgiving and loving our enemies. It is a season to enjoy the music and lights, parties and presents. But the glitter of the season should never dim our sight and prevent us from truly seeing the Prince of Peace in His majesty.
